"Since I was a child I have been passionate about drawing and painting. My school notebooks were full of drawings; I spent hours following the lines and shapes that my fertile imagination fed me, letting them flow and become people and characters. Born to artist parents, surrounded by the scent of oils, it is hardly surprising that I came to art so early. In the studios of Manolo Lima, Nelson Ramos and Clever Lara I learnt a lot, organizing and giving structure to that universe that was in my head.

Later on I studied drawing in New York. I never stopped drawing and painting, even as I created parallel careers in food & wine and decoration, but I never exhibited my work until recently. Everything was given away, and my work hangs at friends’ homes wherever I have lived, in New York, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Montevideo, Punta del Este. It is scattered all over, in very good hands. These days I am sure that my mode of expression is through figurative art. After my own series of characters with animal heads I began to study David Hockney and to work from nature. Until then I painted people, but contained in architecture, in indoor spaces.

Today, living in the country in Punta del Este, I am inspired by the forests and landscapes that surround me. To me, what is essential is the process itself, from staring at a blank canvass until I am done. This is because it is like a trip: painting a mountain I see the sky; painting the sky I see a tree; behind that tree, the horizon appears; and so, one thing leads to another. Rarely does my first image have any resemblance to the final painting. Nowadays I see myself as a really lucky person. Not only do I devote most of my time to what I most enjoy, but other people are also appreciating what I do."
