Press Release

The paintings in Deb Lawrence’s timely exhibit Shelter, made in response to the current border crisis, grew out of her outrage at the unconscionable separation of families, at the nightly spectacle of children wrenched from their parents, and the unbelievable fact of families trying to escape the worst circumstances, finding no refuge or comfort, suspended in a limbo of temporary shelter.

In her upcoming solo exhibition, Lawrence will be showing her new collaged Shelter Series pieces for the first time. Included in the show will be a monumental work on an actual painted vintage tent, with collaged abstract motifs, dealing poignantly with the crossing at the border and separation of women and children.
